Adherence to considering the Bible as a literal account of history is disturbing, particularly because many adherents to this worldview have insinuated themselves into positions of political power, from school boards to the Supreme Court. These people are often not taken seriously, because their perspective is seen as childish. We know now to take them very seriously as important adversaries to a thriving, multicultural society.
