All good points, Bennett. I believe that’s it’s crucial that people develop as many skills and competencies as possible. Push your manager for more training and new opportunities. Find ways to get out of your comfort zone and try new things. Make contacts in your industry outside of your company. Do not get comfortable with the status quo, and if you find yourself doing so, hurry up and explore new areas of opportunity. This won’t keep you from getting riffed, necessarily, but it will enhance your opportunities going forward.
