As a single, older caregiver who would like to find a companion, I’ve seen this issue from both sides. My availability is restricted, which is understandably a turnoff for many ladies. I also dated a very nice lady who looked after her very young granddaughters during the week. That did create restrictions on when we could see each other, and along with other obstacles it became difficult to have a sustainable relationship.
Here’s the thing, though. At my age I would much rather be with someone who chooses to give love over seeking adventure and excitement. Real love, not our romanized fantasy version, involves giving yourself to others. That often involves caring for family members. Importantly, with that mindset there is always more love to give. It is limitless. Time, though, does have limits, and that can be challenging to navigate when caring for someone else.
