EBV infection involves a highly complex and delicate interaction between the virus and the immune system that is supposed to clear it. Trying to assign causality of symptoms to EBV is exceptionally difficult, because of its ubiquity and it’s persistence via latency. I have a son who has suffered from chronic symptoms that I believe are related to EBV. And yet, he did not develop long covid. Nonetheless, I think EBV could have an important role in long covid in some individuals. The problem is figuring out who and then what to do about it.
