Good article. I disagree a bit that core values don’t come from societal or family pressure. I have found in many people I work with that they bring into adulthood values that they got from parents, church, teachers, etc. ; whomever had a large influence on them in their childhood. These values often do not serve them in their adult lives, although they drive a lot of their beliefs and behaviors. I help them reorganize their core values from a larger repertoire of values that they already have. Ones that turn out to be more relevant to their current lives.
