Vaccination remains a risk mitigation measure. We know that many people can have serious, unexpected adverse reactions to several vaccines. This is tragic in an otherwise healthy individual. The risk of serious adverse effects from the pathogen itself is almost always much greater than with vaccination, but that seems to be lost on the antivaxxers.

Covid-19 has added many new wrinkles to the risk calculation. The virus can activate immune-inflammatory processes in so many ways and locations in the body. It’s not clear to me how effective vaccination is in blocking or mitigating some of these effects, particularly in the CNS. I guess the bottom line that if an mRNA vaccine can elicit an adverse inflammatory response, the virus itself is far more likely to do so.
