Great article. I have experienced this type of process in different contexts, and I have even used it in my coaching work. One additional element or question is to follow up the question, “What is really true?”, with “What additional information do I need to know what’s really true?”. So much of our destructive storytelling is based on assumptions. Answering this question lays bare those assumptions. We may not get the information, but we’ve exposed the assumptions for what they are.
