How one shows up as a leader, regardless of organizational position, mirrors how one shows up in life. We all have residues of emotional traumas and resultant coping behaviors, and these can get in the way of being effective leaders. It’s also situational. Despite what some leadership gurus might advocate, the traits that make for a good leader of a SEAL team don’t always translate to an effective leader of a sales team, or a medical team.

What I have learned is that each person has their own leadership qualities, and nurturing and developing these is more effective than trying to get them to fit someone else’s version of a leader.
