I agree that our leaders, scientific experts, and politicians have failed us to a large degree, but I believe that you are over- estimating the impact of the omicron variant. Yes, it will hit hard for short periods in waves across the country. Even though it is not as susceptible to antibodies from vaccination or prior infection, there IS an immune response. The cell mediated response will provide respite from severe infection in most people, and well over 80 percent of the population has some immunity from vaccination and/or prior infection. Yes, there will be more deaths, and on a more mundane level, yes our lives will continue to be constrained. However, I believe we’ve been through the worst. It just seems to suck worse now because we can’t catch a break. It won’t be the catastrophe that you suggest, though.
