I was describing what herd immunity actually is. That term was used in the article. Flattening the curve is actually counter to natural herd immunity. In order to be successful, on a population level, this approach eventually requires testing for exposure and mass vaccination. An antigen test (testing for virus) is best for the early stages to limit spread of infection and “Flatten the curve”, whereas antibody test is the best for testing for individual and population exposure to determine the risk for new infections. In the US and many other countries the genie is out of the bottle. The FTC approach is necessary to not overwhelm our medical capacity. I have not heard serious communication about how to complete the FTC strategy. It’s as if the virus will just disappear.

BTW in my career I had a lot of experience with animal health, both individual and herds, and I worked with many experts in herd health, infectious diseases, and veterinary public health. So I’m not just making this up. I just want to share a perspective we are not getting, or at I am not seeing.
