I’d take it a step further. The mind is doing more than trying to create an Ok you, it’s trying to create a safe you, one that stays alive. In that case, it usually gets it right. The spiritual path is about experiencing the world free of the ever-present fear of our demise and the work our brain does to prevent that , which is why the mind tries to keep our true self hidden ( I surmise). All the stories and crap in our minds really come from that primal drive. I like your suggestion to just observe, rather than trying to expunge the inexpugnable. It’s like saying, “Thank you for taking care of me. I’ll just be over here, living the life you are protecting me for.”
