Interesting perspective, Melody. Perhaps we can consider “comfort zone” as being comfortable with who we are, rather than a set of external circumstances. When we are clear and confident about who we are, we can face new challenges, even the scary ones. The paradox is that often we need to face a scary challenge to discover our hidden super-powers and learn who we really are. That is the basis of the hero’s journey motif. One needn’t go looking for these challenges, they will inevitably find us, beckoning us out of our “ordinary lives”.
