Interestingly, cold water immersion was used as a model for inducing stomach ulcers in rats. Of course, in this case the cold water immersion was involuntary, which was probably the primary instigator of stress. Nonetheless, taking our bodies outside of preferred physiologic parameters can have adverse consequences.
