Boy, I feel your pain. Been there. And I ended up leaving too, albeit with a nice severance package.
Authority is a tricky thing. Yes, it can be necessary to get things done, but that in itself belies an underlying problem. It means that in order for people to get things done, they need some implied or actual threat hanging over their head. Also, the responsibility felt by those in charge is entangled with their limiting beliefs and the fears that arise from them. Thus, the man laying his head on the table.
