It’s nice to read common sense about leadership, rather than hype and sure fire remedies. Yes, the question is how to be a better leader, rather than how to he a great leader. Great leaders are exceedingly rare, and using that as a benchmark will cause just about everyone else to be perceived as a failure.

As you suggest, the way to be a better leader is to be a better self, and the key to that is to make the most of what’s already inside of us. I have found that most people leave the best parts of themselves at the door when they go to work, for many reasons. Resurrecting and reinvigorating those qualities go a long way towards being a better self and better leader.
