I’ve read “Five Dysfunctions” many times, and every time it just seems “off”. For starters, in the book the new CEO is driving the process. Where is the psychological safety in that? Sure, she is written to be somewhat progressive, but she’s still the boss, so get on board or get out. The reality of trust seems to be glossed over too. The nature of most corporate cultures makes trust almost foolish, because, in fact, one’s self protective instincts have merit, even if they come from one’s deep seated false narratives. I could go on, but I’ll stop. Maybe I should write an article about it just to provide some food for thought. The problem is, Lencioni is an accepted expert by many. People just accept this stuff as fact.
