Lots of good points here. There is no justification for the Hamas slaughter of Israeli civilians, and anything short of condemning their brutality is itself inexcusable. But then, what about the indiscriminate killing of Palestinians by the IDF? Is that not just as brutal and indefensible? This is characterized as “collateral damage”, because the civilians are not intended targets, unlike with the Hamas slaughter of Israelis. But dead is dead. For our part, we need to not support the Israeli military in this effort and be forceful advocates for restraint. There’s other ways to target Hamas without destroying entire population centers. Unless that’s really what they want to do. A thousand eyes for an eye?
