More than anything else, this is the weak link in caring for those who cannot care for themselves. I care for my disabled daughter, and finding help where I live is more than challenging. The pandemic made it exponentially worse, for reasons known and unknown. I’m currently recovering from hip surgery, and in the middle of this my daughter’s afternoon caregiver gave her two week notice, after assuring me she’d be here to help through my recovery. Our society values “rugged individualism”, which is another way of saying “every man for himself”. We can see the limitations of that selfish mindset.
