Nice article. I would suggest to add self-forgiveness before self compassion. Forgiveness for our imperfections, forgiveness for our behaviors that were harmful, and maybe most importantly, forgiveness for all of our recurring thoughts of inadequacy and shame. Then, if we are up to it, we can forgive others for the exact same thing, because we are all afflicted in this way. It took me years to realize that everybody was wandering around in a haze of confusion, trying to prove to themselves and the world that they mattered. Perhaps that’s the real Original Sin. It certainly seems to be a peculiar feature of the human brain.
