Nice summary of a fascinating study, but a couple of important caveats:
1) The study was based on samples collected from a small number of Chinese patients who may have genetic distinctions from other ethnicities.
2) Specifically targeting components of these complex, interrelated systems can have devastating unintended consequences. Drugs targeting components of endotoxemia, for instance, have actually worsened septicemia.
These comments notwithstanding, a really fascinating and potentially impactful study.
