Snakes are a poor analogue to humans. Their metabolism is adapted for infrequent meals. For instance, in crotalids ( rattlesnakes), the resting gastric parietal cell mass is quite low, thus HCl secretion is minimal. Upon beginning ingestion of a meal, there is a rapid explosion in numbers of parietal cells and concomitant HCl secretion. What a marvelous adaptation! Better analogues are mammalian carnivores, although few of them are trying to bulk up at the gym. At least I hope not!😝
