So true, and yet…

It’s all about the fear of uncertainty. Attachments, even those that create discomfort, are a known entity. The uncertainty in letting go is like the problem with falling. It’s the landing that hurts! As you mention, death is the biggee. The uncertainty and associated fear are with HOW it will happen. If you believe in heaven and hell, that adds an existential uncertainty and a whole host of attachments that are impossible to relinquish.
