Here in the US a large percentage of white tailed deer were found to be seropositive for SARS-Cov2. I haven’t read all the data, but in an APHIS report it states, “Additionally, our research shows that SARS-CoV-2 was transmitted from humans to deer, mutated, and was potentially transmitted back to humans.” It would seem plausible that had the disease originated here, white tailed deer, or some other animal, might have been considered possible or likely primary vectors.

Nevertheless, the issue is still up in the air. Hopefully the PRC has learned and implemented important lessons. They certainly were heavily impacted by the disease, and their economy has still not fully recovered.
