That’s only a part of the ego, which is so much more. I prefer the description of ego as containing our conscious awareness of existing and a continuing sense of personal identity. What you mention is part of ego inflation, I think. That’s also where our attachments reside, it would seem, and taken together they can make quite a mess.
The Buddhist concept of suffering is quite valuable. I would add that suffering is not to be avoided at all costs ( as if it could be), nor is it to be labeled as “bad”. That just heightens the suffering. And, accepting the current situation does not preclude us from trying to change it, have goals, and experience successes and failures. That’s all a part of living. As is suffering.
