The carbon recycling premise would be relevant if cattle were all scattered about the countryside, grazing on natural grasslands. Indeed, some are, but most are concentrated in commercial operations where their methane just goes into the atmosphere. Dairies are one example. And then there is the destruction of the Amazon forest to create grazing land for cattle. These are not natural processes. The man-made carbon footprint of bovine cultivation and management is a small but significant contributor to a multi factorial problem. We need take any and all opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
