The entire concept of “fairness” is based on some omnipotent entity that is continuously balancing the billions of personal ledgers on this planet. Like that’s what it would do if it actually existed.

In our arrogance, we humans overlook the fact that our mere existence is the result of countless unfairnesses. Throughout the millennia, going back a billion years or more, there have been winners and losers in the constant struggle for survival. And this moment’s “winner” could easily become the “loser” in the next moment. Not fair.

None of that is to say we need not help other people who are less fortunate than us, or that we should not support creating opportunities for as many as possible. That comes down to how we express our personal values. But not to make life more fair.
