The origin of perfectionism is the belief that we are not good enough. That belief is instilled in us at a very early age. Everyone has this belief to some extent, and we all develop different coping mechanisms to deal with it, all quite unconsciously. As a perfectionist myself, I realized that somewhere along the line I had figured out that if I could be perfect, no one could criticize me. “How did that work out, Mike?” We all know the answer to that one. In fact, I just doubled down on my perfectionism. I have found that the key to overcoming perfectionism is to truly accept myself. Oh, and get rid of the wife who always framed a question as if I did something wrong !😆
