The word passion is often misunderstood. It comes from the Latin word “passeo”, which means to suffer. Thus, the Passion of Christ. People often mistake passion for caring, enthusiasm, or commitment, but make no mistake, at it’s core passion involves suffering. When we are passionate about something, we will suffer for it, and because of the “suffering investment” we have made, it can be difficult to let go of the commitment towards whatever it is we are passionate about. There is nothing wrong about pursuing our passion, but we must understand that it will involve suffering, and just like any investment, sometimes one needs to cut one’s losses. That does not mean it was a mistake to have made whatever investment in time, money, or other resource towards our goal. Neither should we throw “good suffering after bad”.
