There are two different issues that often get conflated. First, many academic institutions have gone off the rails in their radical liberalism. We saw an example of that when the presidents of Ivy League universities failed to call out anti-semitism on their campuses. It was reminiscent of Trump referring to the Charlottesville right wing rioters as “good people”.

The second issue is that there is definitely a cultural split between educated and uneducated Americans. Not that there aren’t really smart people without college degrees., and vice versa, but overall we’re seeing a lot of ignorant people being manipulated by the right wing propaganda machine. Of course, the left wing propaganda machine and its intelligentsia try to manipulate the left, but they are greatly outnumbered.

What’s left are millions of thoughtful people of all educational backgrounds, who are forced to choose sides ( and yes, our system is inherently dichotomous). My choice is to reject the hooligans in suits who try to whip up primordial fears in the masses. It feels like a morality play of good vs evil, although I am under no illusion of the purity of the side I choose
