These are good suggestions, but I learned something very important recently. I was experiencing progressive muscle pain in my upper legs and groin. Lots of physical therapy and exercises helped at first, but eventually things got worse. The discomfort was largely from muscles spasmodically contracting, creating painful muscle knots. Long story short , hip radiographs showed bilateral degenerative arthritis. A year after both hips replaced, things are great!

What I learned is that my muscle issues were due to inappropriate contraction of muscles, probably due to inflammation affecting proprioceptive loops affecting these muscles. All the exercises in the world couldn’t help, and I think of this when l consider how maintaining balance can become difficult as we age. Hip arthritis is interesting in that the pain often doesn’t seem to be localized to the hip joint, unlike knee or ankle pain. It also does not have be severe to affect proportion and balance. Something to consider.
