This is kind of a cliche piece. There is truth in it, for sure, but it paints a black and white picture of a situation that is much more complex and nuanced. Many employers are small business owners who are not wealthy, work longer hours than their employees, and are the last to get paid. Of course, there are the corporate fat cats who hoard considerable wealth, and other than draconian taxation schemes, which many people favor, I’m not sure that will ever change.
So what’s the solution? I have my doubts about UBI, and the high inflation we see now is a good example of what happens when the government gives lots of money away across the board. I believe that people spend differently when their money comes from their hard work than when it’s a free check.
It’s a complex issue that requires more than a “good guy, bad guy” narrative, as appealing as that may be.
