This is simply anthropomorphic thinking, and it assumes other life forms are as fear based as ours. The odds of life forms that can broadcast their existence being within 100 light years of earth is quite low. The odds of such life forms existing in the universe is infinitesimal, but then, so is the scale of the universe.

Another interesting question to ponder is, if we assume other life forms are nucleotide based, then is the “hunter/hunted” paradigm universal? Is it always about getting my DNA reproduced? Even at your expense? At some point in evolution one might presume that is no longer necessary.
