Ultimately, it’s about “want to” vs “need to”. So, if there is some behavior we’d like to change, because we know it’s harmful, what do we actually want? Most importantly, what is the feeling we are seeking and what behavior can create that? Of course, the challenge is being able to imagine something that we have not experienced. That’s where “hacks” can be useful. Something that lets us have the experience we are seeking, so that we have something tangible to strive for.
