Very interesting article. I believe that it is important to look at this situationally. For instance, I was ready to “burn the boats” and leave a tenured professorship to start a veterinary consulting practice. I had some lucrative work lined up, and I was within a month of cutting loose, when…The budget for the work I had lined up got killed, the country went into a mild recession, but my potential customers’ industry went into a severe recession. I did not burn the boats, and boy, did that work out! Whew!

Also, I believe that this approach works best for certain personality types better than others. And then one needs to consider one’s values and honor those. I have learned that by knowing myself, I can accept taking a cautious approach or having a plan B in certain situations, and when I do move forward into the unknown without hesitation, I have trust that it is the right thing to do.
