Walter Isaacson’s books on Elon Musk and Steve Jobs are illuminating. Both are afflicted with significant personality disorders from emotional trauma in their youth. Psychological safety? Work life balance? Ha! Fogettaboutit! I would never have wanted to work for them, and all those people posting on LinkedIn about corporate culture and leadership ( most of it sounds great, but a lot of it is crap) wouldn’t last a minute in those high pressure environments. And yet, the people who have worked with these flawed leaders produced unparalleled results. It’s not for everyone, but it does speak to a certain drive and work ethic that our pampered society seems to have lost.
