Well, they do get vaccinated too often. I have some background with pet vaccines, and clearly annual vaccination recommended by veterinarians is motivated more by income than pet wellness. Over time, with 3 year interval vaccination available veterinarians have become less dependent on vaccine income. In fact, a schedule of vaccination that is age based ( more vaccination in young pets and less in middle age pets), as well as taking pet lifestyle into consideration will give the public more confidence that their vet’s recommendation is well thought out. Of course this doesn’t negate the misguided and irrational opinions of the anti-vaxxers. But a rational, tailored approach to vaccination can provide pet owners a sense of empowerment in their pets’ medical treatment, and that is a trend that is much greater than vaccine hesitancy.
