Well, this certainly upsets long held paradigms. There’s something interesting going on, but whether it is a true microbiome, I’m not so sure. It’s a very different environment with different cell types than the gut, lungs, urinary tract, etc. The presence of bacteria within glial cells does make sense, since these have phagocytic activity. It’s quite fascinating. I’ll stay tuned.
