Well this doesn’t sound very objective. What’s the crime?

It is true, nonetheless, that companies are getting away with charging more than they need to to offset costs. I can’t tell you how many times some smug CEO has said on CNBC or an earnings report that they still have strong pricing power for their products. The message is directed at their shareholders, and it is that they can keep their earnings intact, and even grow them, despite higher costs. Meanwhile the economy at large, and all those who participate, even shareholders, suffer not only high prices, but the effects of blunt force actions by the Fed to bring inflation back to 2%. I wish just one host would admonish one of these CEOs, and ask, “How about not raising prices so much, for the good of the country?”.
