When I first learned about this I thought it was just the coolest scientific finding. It makes us reconsider consciousness as something unique to humans or animals. It also gives me hope for consciousness to flourish elsewhere in this vast universe, lest we totally screw it up here. Of course, examples of fungal and bacterial neural networks show that it will flourish here long after we’re gone. Even more so, probably.
