Who is this monolithic Christian Church of which you speak? There are the Catholics, who continue to protect their child molesters. Then there are the Southern Baptists, who openly acknowledge that gay people are not welcome in their congregation (as anti-Jesus as they come). There’s different flavors of evangelicals, many of whom seem to have no grip on reality. And then there’s a bunch of boring Protestant denominations. Most of them, it seems, are more interested in telling Jesus stories than digging deeply into the real message that Jesus was conveying: Don’t look “up there” for salvation, look inside yourself. Of course, organizational power structures derive their power from “up there”. Giving the power back to the people threatens their exalted position. Which is exactly why Jesus was crucified.
