Yes, and stretching is critically important. Our muscles and connective tissues naturally lose elasticity as we age. This affects range and ease of motion, as well as muscle strength. We can end up strengthening shorter, tight muscles when we work out, which can cause them to abnormally contract even more. Stretching and doing exercises with elongated muscles is crucial as we age. I learned that the hard way and now I’m working hard with PT to restore musculotendinous health in my legs.
