Yes, indeed, and the experiences you have described so well demonstrate how suppressed painful emotions are lurking within us all. There are many ways to bring these into our consciousness, psychedelics being just one of many. Meditation, yoga, deep massage, psychotherapy, and hypnosis come to mind.
Back in the day when I would dabble in certain substances, I had mostly very enjoyable experiences. One exception was while watching the movie Yellow Submarine. This was a perfect movie for such an experience, with its vivid colors and mostly lighthearted, upbeat music. But then there was Eleanor Rigby. Sad, morose, hopeless. That song sent me into a short-lived dive into my emotional cesspool, and to this day I cannot bear to listen to it. Maybe I should, though. Really sit and listen. Yikes!!!
