Yes, two whole people!

Our cultural mythology promotes the notion that “soulmates” complete each other. This plays out as projection, as each partner projects on to the other characteristics they deeply wish were their own. This is a toxic brew, and eventually disappointment sets in when one or both partners realize that the other has failed to live up to the projected expectation.

The quest for soulmate seems particularly acute among older singles, who probably believe there’s just one last chance. This creates unreasonable expectations and raises the bar so high that it seems no one could pass muster.

So, two whole, imperfect people who enjoy and are excited by being with each other. Not because they need to, but because they want to. That sounds good.
